Margaret Foo's Career As A Housekeeping Supervisor
A Roomful Of Smiles
When bored with life as a stay-at-home seamstress, Margaret decided to become a chambermaid at 40. Now she is a trainer of the housekeeping department at Rasa Sentosa Resort and loving every minute of it.
Why?
‘I decided to enter the hospitality industry for the opportunity to interact and mix with people from all over the world. Having stayed at home for many years, I found it tough talking to strangers at first. But with the support of my colleagues and training from the hotel, I soon found this to be a breeze,’ said Margaret.
‘I enjoy guiding and training my juniors on the finer points of hotel service. I like making guests happy and feel at home. Once I discovered that a guest was unwell and prepared a towel wrapped with ice cubes for him. He was touched and grateful.’
Certified To Serve
‘The Tourism WSQ recognizes one and all for their competency, regardless of age. For instance, I was assessed on problem solving skills when dealing with difficult guests, which was what I have been doing for the last 20 years. Thus I found it easy to achieve certification.’
